Diagnostic testing for COVID-19 is performed by taking a sample via a gentle swab of the lower nasal cavity. The process takes only a few moments and is pain-free to the patient. The swab is then taken to our lab where it is processed and analyzed, with results returned to the patient in 1-3 days depending on current capacity of the lab and the number of tests ordered that day.
The staff members administering the test will be in full PPE, including gowns, gloves, face shields and masks for both yours and their protection. Please wear a mask when visiting our center for COVID-19 diagnostic testing.
Q. What is a Rapid COVID-19 Test?
A. A Rapid PCR test is a nasal swab used to detect an active strain of the COVID-19 virus. Patients that are experiencing symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive should receive a rapid COVID test.
Q. How does Rapid COVID Testing work?
A. A test works by swabbing the inside of a patient’s nose, and detecting whether or not they have an active case of the virus. Your test is then sent to and analyzed in our lab. Rapid test results are typically found within fifteen minutes of the test.
Q. What should I do if I have a positive result?
A. You should stay home and avoid contact with others. Drink plenty of fluids throughout the quarantine process and get enough rest. Monitor your symptoms to make sure you are getting better and stay in touch with your doctor. It is recommended to quarantine for at least 10 days after symptoms start.
Q. What should I do if I have a negative test?
A. Receiving a negative tests means your body did not show active signs of the virus at the time. If you start experiencing symptoms, get tested again. If not, continue following governmental guidelines, wash your hands frequently, maintain a distance of 6 feet between others, and wear a mask when in public.
Q. Is rapid testing covered by insurance?
A. Whether or not you are covered for rapid tests will depend on your current insurance plan. Some insurance plans do not cover rapid testing. Please refer to our list of current, accepted insurance plans and determine whether your policy covers rapid tests.
