Can My Child Go to School if I Have COVID?

May 24, 2022

While COVID is still a major problem for countries around the world, many of us are past the lockdown and stay-at-home phase. Hence, people are no longer working and studying from home. They can visit public places, go on a holiday, and work on-site. People are allowed to visit all kinds of places by following the necessary regulations. However, COVID has not yet left us alone, so we still have a long way to go before we can fully eliminate it from our lives.

AFC Urgent Care Short Hills provides COVID-19 testing and COVID vaccinations to all patients. Both testing and vaccines are available on a walk-in basis (subject to change). Visit our walk-in center for care today.

What to do if You have COVID

The first thing to do when you experience symptoms of COVID-19 is to isolate yourself. The main symptoms of COVID include losing your sense of smell and taste, diarrhea, vomiting, prolonged fever, coughing, and difficulty breathing.

Getting yourself tested will take a day or so if you’re not using one of those instant tests, so it’s better to start isolating yourself as soon as you experience any of the symptoms discussed above, or even if you recently came into contact with a person who tested positive for COVID.

Can Your Child Go to School if you have COVID?

Your child can go to school and take classes while maintaining a safe distance from people. Similarly, other family members can also carry on their daily routine while adhering to precautionary measures. They might not be affected by COVID, but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

When to End Isolation

The recommended time span for isolation is five days, and it should start from the first day you experience symptoms. Once you complete five days of quarantine, it should be mandatory for you to continue wearing a high-quality mask for another five days at least. This will help you cover your nose and mouth to avoid affecting anyone else.

The total time period of isolation should be five days at home and then five days of wearing masks everywhere and avoiding visiting places like medical centers and meeting people with weak immune systems.

If you still experience symptoms of COVID after completing your 5-day quarantine, you should isolate yourself for another five days starting from the day when you first experienced symptoms.

Recommended Activities during Isolation

The following are the most important activities that a person who tested positive for COVID should do:

  • Keep a close watch on their symptoms. Check if their health condition is getting better if it is worsening, or if it is just static. Be vigilant for any emergency situation due to problems with breathing.
  • Avoid social gatherings of any kind. Avoid coming in contact with people.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces at home.
  • Wear a mask all the time when around people.
  • Avoid sharing any kind of personal items and essentials with family members.

You shouldn’t avoid the above-mentioned precautionary measures and isolation guidelines to ensure that you and your loved ones stay in good health.
